No sound - question re: devices installed

I've been haviong problems with teh sound on my HP Pavillion for more than
two months. I finally gave up and bout of new Creative Labs external sound
card. Surprisingly that didnt fix the problem either.

When I open up the properties of the new sound card, it says that the
drivers for the audio, midi and mixer devices have been enabled but have not
been started. Anyone ever seen this before and found a workable solution?
Thanks.

Hi,

Try disabling the onboard device, then (re)install the drivers for the
Creative card.

luck.this has been a problem ever since i got this computer...athlon 64 with
realtek 97ac sound card running winxp home adition. there are anumber of us
that have the same problem but i don't know all there machines, maybe its

Read this entire thread and then try the stuff

Yesterday 5/24/05 i loaded "Artsoft DVD 2" on my computer and while it did
not work perfectly it did make all my windows sounds start working again.
I previously had tried every suggestion on this group, but used google to
search other suggestions...none of them worked.
