No sound output

When i open a sound file, it is shown as playing but no
sound is actually coming out from speakers, i have
checked they are set up properly n plugged in etc, any
one help please ???

Just a hunch, but try right clicking on the speaker icon and open up the
volume control and make sure that nothing is muted.
