No sound device?

I'm not sure if this is where I'm suppost to post this, but I just installed
some updates to my pc (windows XP) from the microsoft update site, but after
they were installed, my pc keeps telling me I have no sound device. The
sound before I installed them was perfect. How do I fix it?
