Hi,

I'm running Windows XP Professional with the latest service pack and
updates. I am not able to get any sound to come out of my speakers. I'm
using a Dell GX 520 with built-in audio. There's an internal DELL speaker as
well as external speakers connected.

Yes, I did turn up the volume. :) I updated to the latest sound driver, I
updated the computer BIOS and no luck. In Device Manager everything shows up
fine (no yellow or red exclamation point ).

I called Dell and they had me do a hardware diagnostic check by booting into
the utility partition and I could hear the speakers then. It's just that
when I'm in Windows I can't hear anything.

Dell seems to think it's some kind of software corruption within Windows (I
seem to agree).

Besides doing a repair install of Windows XP, is there any other way to fix
this??

Reinstall your sound drivers.

Go to support.dell.com

Enter in your model or service code, find the audio driver.

Nevermind, you did that.

Then it's either a weeklong hunt for what went worng, or a repair
install, or a clean install.
