no security tab

I'm logged on to XP PRO as admin, on an NTFS partition, I have no security
tab on folders when I right click and
get properties. The security tab is available if I boot into safe mode.
I have tried to disable simple file sharing in tools/folder options/view by
unticking the checkbox,but
after clicking apply and OK,
when I reopen, the checkbox has a tick in it again.

I have run Adaware and Spybot with no results relating to this problem.
Your advice would be appreciated.

Greetings:

In regedit.msc\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE &
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explore
r
see that you do not have an enabled key related to Security.
(Posibly: NoFileSecurity, NoSecurityTab, NoFileSharing, NoFileMenu)

If no success; in gpedit.msc\User Configuration\Administrative
Templates\Windows Components\Windows Explorer\disable Remove Security Tab
.... These directives only apply to regular users, but I have seen them apply
also to administrators, so this could be the case in your situation.

If still no success; in Start\Run\MMC\File menu\add or remove
complement\add\Security Templates\add\close\accept\in security setup\file
system right click\add file\search for folder or file and add... now
security tab becomes available in this console and you can apply security...
save changes on exit, rename new Console and save to.

Hope this helps.. (no doubt)

Hi Juan, I checked the registry keys you mentioned
but nothing there to indicate a problem.
Next I tried the gpedit method but that made no difference.
finally using the MMC and security template I was, as you said, able
to access the security tab and apply and save settings..However it would be
nice to be able to access the security tab from the folder itself.
I feel sure that the security tab not being available from each folder has
to
do with the fact that I can.t turn off the Simple File Sharing.

Many thanks

Gulper

A repair/install solved the simple file sharing problem, which gave
me the security tab back.
