no search or help in xp

today i wanted to find some files on my hard drive. As
usual i went to the start menu, and click "search" the
normal seach window does not appear, only this time i get a
blank window with no search options!? after a restart the
same thing happened. I then tried to find the help option
and may be able to find out what the problem is. From the
start menu i selected "Help and Suport" yet nothing opens,
no window nothing happens, its like a button to know
where....can someone explain wtf and have a solution to
this rather annoying problem.

Dek,

To resolve the Search window problem, follow these steps:

1.. Log on to the computer by using an account with administrator
permissions.
2.. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%\inf , and then click OK.
3.. Locate the Srchasst.inf file.
4.. Right-click the Srchasst.inf file, and then click Install. This
reinstalls the files that Search Companion requires.
