I hae lost my ability to search for files and folders.

when i click on Search in a folder i get the grey panel at the left of the
windown and the little office assistant dog, sits there with nothing else in
the side panel - not box to type in - nothing.

this also happens when i try to use the search feature in the Start menu.

anyone know how i can fix this?

No content in the search menu.

Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 %Windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 /i urlmon.dll

Did you try reregistering the .dll files? Here it is again.

Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 %Windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 /i urlmon.dll
