Running windows XP Pro. Have a problem whereby Spybot Search & Destroy is
generating an error message because framedyn.dll was not found (Says it fails
to start because it can't find it but program does start!?!)

Anyway, because I got the error message, I used the search fucntion to find
the file and and hence the location in question. No joy; search over very
quicky. Tried other files and folder to find but no joy - searched system
folders, hidden files and folders and subfolders

Seached on net and found file should be located in Windows/system32/wbem
folder. It was (Why spybot couldn't find (?) it is another problem)

Decided to re-install search function - windows/inf/srchasst.inf - but still
does not function

Appreciate any help

If I understand you correctly, this is strictly a Spybot S&D problem? Have
you tried reinstalling Spybot? It may not be finding the file because it's
looking in the wrong place. That's typically a Registry issue, and the
fastest, easiest way to resolve it is to reinstall the app.

Gary,

SPybot issue resolved....Windows Search function is not. If I search fro
framedyn.dll with all options a previously specified, it doesn't pick it up.

I tried *.dll and semi works i.e shows only 60 dll files, basically
commencing from the letter L upwards (only one previous to that starting with
letter C). You can't tekll me there are only 60 dll's ??

However, whilst replying to you, I had a thought.......I've just turned off
the indexing service and it's now search functions as I would expect. So
perhaps problems lies with the indexing service. I'll keep this service
turned off

I think you found it... The indexing function. Leave it off if you so
desire, many do, but I suspect that if you turn it back on it might just
work OK. Then again, you might also need to locate and delete the current
index files (don't know off the top of my head where those are.)
