No search function on IE 6.02

Retail Is 4 Suckers

I am not sure what is causing this, but when I press the search button
in Internet Explorer 6.02, a side window opens but no search area.
There is a "new" button, when I press it, it opens up a new window, but
nothing is in it.
Does anyone know what is causing this and how can it be fixed?

Show the hidden files and folders Rightclick C:\Windows\Inf\srchasst.inf Click install. The required file is in ../I386 folder on
the XP CD
 
I tried that and still have the same problem.
Any other suggestions?
