No "Save Picture As" Panel Appears When I "Take Picture From Preview"

Martin

I've used this function many times in the past and it worked as
follows:

1. Stop movie using pause, or by sliding timescale pointer, at the
desired frame.

2. From pulldown menu, select "Tools" "Take Picture From Preview"

3. A small panel pops up with the title "Save Picture As"

4. I enter a name for the picture, navigate to the folder I wish to
save it in, and click "Save". The picture is saved, in .jpg format,
according to my entries.

Last night, I was using moviemaker and the "Take Picture From Preview"
function did not behave as usual. When I clicked the "Take Picture
From Preview" function, no "Save Picture As" panel appeared.

I tried this several times, using various methods of stopping the movie
on a frame, to no avail. I also tried closing MM and re-opening, as
well as re-booting my computer. Still no luck - the only indication I
have that anything is happening is a slight "blink" of the screen when
I mouse-click on the instruction.

Is there some setting of MM that I might have inadvertently messed up,
so that it is saving to some default folder instead of presenting me
the option panel? I searched all over my hard drive, but could not
find anywhere it was putting the pictures.

The "blink" sounds as though the screen is
trying to open. Long shot...but try holding your
Ctrl key when you click "Take Picture".

Have you installed any software / updates
that may be causing the issue?

It may be worth a try to do a system restore
to a time before this issue occurred.

==================================
There is no user setting for the screen capture
option and the images won't be on your hard
drive unless you save them.

Still didn't work using Ctrl, but I've now further isolated the
behavior to only the lead-in title before my clip. I can still capture
JPEGs from the main clip, as well as a title placed after the clip.
Really strange.

Looks as though I may need to re-load windows. I've also had recent
problems with Media Player, which seems to have completely lost the
option to burn a playlist to CD. I know I've used that function
before, but now the option isn't available.

Third-party stuff I have loaded that might interfere: Winamp, some
DIVX and XVID codecs, and a couple of demo versions of things like Auto
Gordian Knot. But most of this stuff has been on my machine quite a
while, and I think the problems started later (but that's impossible to
verify).

You can disable the codecs in
Movie Maker by going to:
Tools / Options / Compatibility tab.

Did you try System Restore?

Reinstalling Windows occasionally
can certainly be beneficial but at
least WinXP is not as twitchy as
Win98 used to be.
