picture scanning & WMM

Hi, I am gonna use windows movie maker to make a project. I have several
pictures that were taken with a 35 mm camera (back in the days :))that I
want to scan to my pc and use in this project. I have a all in one HP
printer.
Here is what happens. I scan the picture and save it. when i view it in
Windows fax viewer, it doesnt show up in full screen;meaning that its size
like 1/8 or so of a typical 8 1/2 x 11 paper. I practiced saving as BMP,
Jpeg, and even resizing it. It doesnt matter whether i use Hp or the scanner
wizard. Anyways, I dragged the pic in the timeline to see if it would show
up full screen on that, but it looks just like the scan.
How can i scan all my pictures so I can view them either in fax viewer or my
WMM project and look 'borderless' (since the border that surrounds each pic
is paper size)
thanks in advance.
ps any pics that I take nowadays with my digital is a snap as all the pics
come out great and cover the entire screen with no 'border'. please help if
u can

You need to increase your scanning
resolution if you require larger images.

Windows Picture and Fax Viewer
will display an image at exact size
up to the size of the screen and then it
will constrain larger images to fit the
screen.

Lets say your Screen Resolution is
set for 1024 x 768 and you scan a
4" x 6" image at 150 DPI. The finished
scan would be 900 x 600 and would
not fill the screen.

Same image at 300 DPI = 1800 x 1200

Same image at 600 DPI = 3600 x 2400

Another advantage to the higher DPI is
that you can print better quality enlargements.

Another useful tip is that you can specify
the portion of an image that is scanned
by moving and resizing the selection frame
on the scan preview.

One more thought...if you have a standard
monitor (not wide screen) and you want to
insure that your scans fill the screen...they
will need to be cropped to a 4:3 aspect ratio.
(wide screen would be 16:9).

The following free software includes a good
crop tool.

Have you looked at the picture in any other program? I'm wonderinf if your
scanner isn't scanning all of it. Instead, you are ony capturing a portion
of the original. I know that this sounds kind of silly, but I've seen it
happen (to me, of course).
