Professor Joe

got another machine donated to us from the family of a person who
passed away.

Cannot do safe mode in this, has more stuff on it than I ever knew
existed LOL (probably not)

Will go into VGA mode,etc.etc.

just no safe modes...then and only then we get a 7B error/blue screen.

Machine runs great normally...

Went to MS and most of their 7B error stuff does not (I think) apply to
this machine.

Ran Blacklight frwr from F-secure just now and it found nothing.
Have run 4 of our always-used antivir-spyware-trojan progs and cleaned
it out, rebooted, and still problems in safe mode.

We would like to get this cleaned up and clean so we can use this also
in the library here at the univ.

Much thanks, you great people here :)

I would try Error Checking the drive, and then running SFC /SCANNOW. There
is probably some corrupt file on the hard drive.

===================
just turned off sys restore, rebooted, no change.

ran chkdsk /f /r, no change

been deleting the more mundane programs (that might not affect hardware
issues), rebooting every couple I uninstall, with still no change.
Deleted Nero due to several mentions on the web with the 7B error
caused by Nero.

Ran reg clnr when I was done, rebooted, no change there either.

just an update.

We have a conference tonight, I'll check back afterwards for any
wonderful ideas you fine people have here.

Hello,

I got the same error when I deleted the Safe Mode branch in the registry
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general/msg/17de1e720cb59c1b

It was fixed when I did the Last Known Working Configuration.

Alternatively, you may want to copy the branch of
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot
from another computer by exporting it using Registry Editor (Start > Run >
Regedit > OK) to your computer

ok singapore here is the update on info:

all of our machines donated previous happened to be xppro.
This one is xphome.

The xppro machines have
Minimal and Network as subdivisions under SafeBoot.

this xphome we are working with you on:
has a
CourrentControlSet with SafeBoot........................... FastReboot value of 1

and no division of SafeBoot at all under the CurrentControlSet.

I yahoo'ed the Courrent and everything is in an Asian language, so uncertain about how to go from here.

PS wouldn't the sfc/scannow I ran yesterday (system files) have fixed this issue, or is the scannow not working properly either???

Much thanks.
Professor Joe

Hello,

The branch is located under CURRENTCONTROLSET > CONTROL. You have to go
inside CurrentControlSet first.

From your working machine, right-click the SafeBoot key on the left, Export,
Save.

Transfer the file to your problem giving machine and execute the file by
double-clicking it in it.

thanks Singapore.
Again, under CurrentControlSet/Control/there is NO safeboot,
there IS under CourrentControlSet/Control/

will export complete Safeboot from xppro (Minimal and Network factions)
and import into xphome.
Will be back.
