No Product Key - Certificate of Authenticity

I have a new (just openned) Win2000 which we got with a
new computer. The computer came with win2000 installed. I
want to install Win2000 on my second Compaq computer. The
sealed package I got (for distribution only with a new pc)
does not have a certificate of authenticity. It has a
sticker that I am supposed to put on my new computer. The
instructions say to affix this sticker (Certificate of
Authenticity) to the exterior of my pc. It does not have
the 25 character key, only a 14 character (only numbers)
key on it. Does anyone know where or how I can get the 25
character key to install win2000 on my old computer?

That 's odd, the CoA I have has the product key on it.
Is there anything on the back of your Quick Start Guide?

Look all around the computer, also, unless you completely format the first
computer, you have no license to install Windows 2000 on a second.

With OEM copies you may not have a license to install it on any computer
other whether the first one still has it installed or not, but I can't
confirm that

No worries. Aside from the fact that you might need to product key if you
need to reinstall Windows 2000 on your new machine, you're going to have to
buy another copy of Windows 2000 for your Compaq.

One computer -- one license; as it's always been.

Greetings --

OEM versions must be sold with a piece of hardware (normally a
motherboard or hard drive, if not an entire PC, although Microsoft has
greatly relaxed the hardware criteria for WinXP) and are _permanently_
bound to the first PC on which they are installed. An OEM license,
once installed, is not legally transferable to another computer under
any circumstances.
