No Phone Connection

I have a HP145D Printer/ Copier/ Scanner/ Fax; XP Pro Operating System; US Robotics 56K PCI Fax; and connect to net by dialup.

Whenever I connect to the net, I have no problem with dial tone or connection. I can receive faxes, but whenever I send from a windows document- the modem dials, but there is no connection with my phone line and I get a report printed that says there was "no answer"

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Fritz,
Is the fax number you are dialing a good fax number? What do you mean the
modem dials but no connection with phone line? What gives you an indication
there is no connection to the phone line?

Thanks again Victor,

seems I've got the same problem on two questions here- both of these issues are mine and it is the same one.

The fax numbers are good numbers and it happens on each one. If I try to fax from MS Word; I click print and designate my HP145D as the fax; then I follow the wizard prompts and then send now. The modem dials the number, but my phone line does not pick up the outgoing call. The line light does not come on showing the line is in use and if I pick up the phone, I get a dial tone and can make a call on that line. After 5-6 rings, the HP145D prints out a report that says no answer.

I have a strong hunch the modem in your PC is dialing, NOT the modem in
HP145D. Unless HP provides a driver specifically to cause the Fax service
to use the modem IN THE PRINTER, the service is using the modem in your PC.
