No optical drives have ability to "inject" (un-eject) ?

Just curious...

In Windows Explorer I can right click an optical drive and choose EJECT. The
drive opens up.

I don't understand why I can't right cilck and choose "INJECT" to close the
tray.

Seems like a useless feature, but so is the EJECT feature. Right now I'm
remotely connected to my PC. I just burned a DVD and I can't use it because
the burning software does an EJECT after the burn.

BLAH!

Hmm... maybe that should be sNoozer, if you click "Eject"
when the drive tray is out, it will close.

I can't believe you never noticed that.

It was the first thing I tried. Didn't work... and doesn't on any of the
other PC's I have access to.

It's retarded, but I always thought the auto-eject feature was retarded.
FWIW, a lot of programs that have that feature also have the ability to turn
it off.

Plenty of apps do have a button that you can click on that
ejects if the drive is closed, and closes the tray if its open.

Quite a bit of the burning software does inject
when you hit the eject button when its already out.

Just tried it in Windows Explorer, and you're right it
doesn't work there, odd. It seems to work in most of
the other software that I have that addresses the drive.

It looks like I was the one snoozing.

If Microsoft gave you everything all at once, would you ever
buy a new OS?

Can you reboot the machine while remotely connected? If so, the drive
should close when the machine restarts then you could reconnect.

....and then it boots from the and *splat*, no more remote connection.

I solved it with a DLL and registry tweak.

Quite easy - free software, limited resources to implement.

Pathetic, really.

The real reason is that the industry keeps moving forward and
the OS has to adopt those useful ideas when they show up.

The wireless wizard in XP is an absolutely classic example of things
improving over time without any mindless conspiracy theory involved.

You should spell that out in case someone else has
the same problem and checks it using groups.google

Can't post binaries here and there is no "single point of reference" to
direct folks to.

You dont need to, just a link to that dll.
and there is no "single point of reference" to direct folks to.

Cant you do a fancy google where you include the
phrases that are in the particular hits that matter so a
single google link produces the articles that are relevant ?

And you think ejecting a CD tray is a potentially new
feature from this forward-moving industry? Obviously not.

It "might" instead be that they preceived a limited demand
for such a feature, that including it would be detrimental
to the extent of a more cluttered UI, but it seems pretty
obvious to consider such a thing when they had already
implemented the Eject command.

Who would they have conspired with? Whatever you are
thinking, it is your unique thought on this issue.

Yep, it wasnt always there, it did show up over time.

So will closing the tray when you hit that when the tray is open too.
It has already in quite a few of the burning apps for example.
Obviously not.

Has no cluttering effect on the UI when the SAME button
or popup menu entry is used in both cases. If you hit it
with the tray closed, the tray is opened. If you hit it with
the tray open, it closes the tray. Thats ALREADY there
in some of the burning apps, stupid.
but it seems pretty obvious to consider such a thing
when they had already implemented the Eject command.

Have fun explaining how come its in quite a few
of the burning apps but isnt in XP currently.
Who would they have conspired with?

They dont have to conspire WITH anyone, stupid. JUST decide to
offer it in a later version to encourage you to buy that later version.
Whatever you are thinking, it is your unique thought on this issue.

Never ever could bullshit its way out of a wet paper bag.
