I have been successful in getting rid of most of the pop-
ups on my screen, but there is one that will not go away
and no one I've talked to knows how to get rid of it. It
pops up in the lower right corner as a gray screen with
nothing on it except : FAILED TO RESOLVE HOST NAME. I use
XP. Can any one help. Thanks, Sonny

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ Hosts

click on that file and opens with notepad, delete and
entries , unless you know you're using them.

This doesn't sound like a Pop-Up, but a Windows message
screen. Host names are resolved by something called a DNS
server. They translate URL's to their equivalent IP address.
www.cnn.com will translate to 64.236.16.52. Your ISP has
a DNS server that performs this operation. Using XP you
can override this function with a Hosts file. It exists in the
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc. location. Inside the file
are direct translations of URL's to IP addresses. Whenever
a URL is unresolved, the browser will usually post a message.
Does this message appear when using a browser, or just
appear on the screen ? I would suggest you download and
run both AdAware and SpyBot Search and Destroy. This
could be a Trojan/spyware that is running in the background
on your PC.
