No Nvida drivers for the 32 bit crowd? now I'm STUCK!!

When I first installed Vista my drivers (the latest ones on the site as of
this post) were working all right, but I figured they might get better under
Vista if I used Vista drivers. So i went back to Nvidia and saw they had the
option to download the 64 bit drivers for Vist and something called Vista x86.

Not sure what the heck x86 was but knowing I wasn't 32 bit, I downloaded it.
When the download was complete, i went to UNINSTALL the old drivers before
installing the new ones. Much to my annoyance I was told by the install
program "nope, wrong software...will now exit."

Hmmm...well maybe Vista is vista and I can try the 64 bit? I downloaded
those and got the same error message.

Oh well, I'll go back to the old ones I had before for WindowsXP.

IT SAYS IT WON'T INSTALL ON THIS VERSION OF WINDOWS!?!?!?!

Now what? Stupid Nvidia! Where are the Vista drivers for the 32 bit crowd??

x86 is 32 bit. If you can't figure even that out, you SHOULD NOT be running
a beta of anything. Stick to XP Home.

Right click on the Computer icon on the desktop and select properties.
Under the System section you notice it will say either 32-bit or 64-bit
operating system. What Larry says is true, at least the part about x86
being the same as 32-bit. 64-bit is often referred to as x64.

A lot of folks can get a little snippy (especially the old salts, lol, I'm
one so I'm not insulting anyone) when you post with either anger or extreme
exasperation. Keep it calm, cool and collected and responses should be
better. I like to say post with your happy voice.

Hmmmm, my vista 64b version came with enough nvidia support to get the
system installed (with glass running) on the following system

Athlon64 X2
nForce4
Geforce 7800GT

I upgraded the video card drivers for performance but didn't do anythign
with the system drivers. Seemed to run fine until it commited suicide after
I installed quicktime 7.

Well Hank, I am one of the Old Salts. :)

Even so, anybody that is this ill-informed should not be dabbling in beta
apps. And how does he deal with it? "Stupid Nvidia".

My happy voice took a friggin hike today... ;)

Thanks, Hank for your "happy voice" reply. I guess I wasn't clear enough in
my initial post that I FIGURED the x86 drivers were for the 32 bit which is
why I downloded and installed them first. Imagine my puzzlement when they
WOULDN'T install for me then, since I had the 32 Bit Vista.

Not that it matters much any more. I tired of Vista after that night and
went back to XP. I have a way better than spec system (P4 2.8gig Dual core
1Gig ram, GeForce 7600GT) and Vista was fairly slow and cumbersome (but
pretty, until I turned the Aero off). I have the patience to test bugs, but
I don't have the patience to do it slowly. :) Thanks again for your reply,
Hank.

I'm wondering if I shouldn't have tried the 64b version of Vista rather than
the 32b. I have the system specs for it and then some, maybe it would have
treated me nicer.

Was it running smooth for you?
