NO MORE MEMORY

Hello,

I am trying to figure out why I have no more memory. I have a 40 GB hard
drive that is running windows XP. I have checked the partitions in Disk
Management and I have one primary partition of 36.26 GB FAT 32 healthy
(system), and 1.02 GB unallocated. Surely XP does not take up 36 GB by
itself does it? I have tried to change the partitions, but the delete
partition is grayed out. What do I need to do?

You have Storage Space and Memory mixed up. If you are getting a low
memory warning you may want to clean your hard
drive and also get rid of old Restore Points. Open MyComputer>rt click
on your Drive Icon>select Properties>Disk Cleanup>More Options>System
Restore>Cleanup.

Go to run, type:diskmgmt.msc In msc R.click on the unallocated space, then
select format or delete. You should convert FAT32 to ntfs file system,FAT32
is outdated,to do so,go to run,type:cmd In cmd type:CONVERT C: /FS:ntfs
Do this after with other partitions, change C: to D: E: or whatever letter its
assigned.

I converted my c: drive to ntfs and that freed up a little bit more, now I
have 6.25 free. Is there anything else that I can do or am I stuck? What do
you mean by change the "other" partitions. I also noticed that in disk
manager, I cannot format or delete the allocated space. It also says when I
right click on the partition, the list that it gives me is either to open,
explore, change drive letter and path, properties, and help. What am I doing
wrong?

I have a similar problem: I had two separate copies of Windows XP installed
(long story). I successfully deleted one, and had 1.6 gigs of hard drive
space freed up. Everything seemed ok, but then while editing some photos, I
got a 'low memory' warning. Suddenly, I have only 200 megs of storage, about
what I had when I had the two copies of XP. This makes no sense. Running
chkdsk doesn't help, defrag doesn't help.
