My son in his quest of disk space for music download decided to move the
"Program" folder on another drive. :-(

Now, after he managed to move back the folder on the C: drive. I do not have
a desktop anymore (only the image used has background). The account selection
screen worked but after I enter password only the background show-up.

ALT-CTRL-DEL is the only way to move out of this mode (give access to task
manager). Some programs can be started this way.

Safe mode have the same behavior (administrator or user account).
I try to reload Windows XP (upgrade mode) no luck !! .

Can somebody help me. Thanks,

Well you might tap the F8 key on start-up,select safe mode with networking,
enter xp as administrator, bring up task mgr,new task, type:cmd In cmd
type:VERIFY ON Type:Sfc /Scannow Insert xp cd,exit the info screen,when
Sfc is thru,type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree,type:EXIT Remove cd,restart pc.Or
install xp cd,boot to xp cd,select install xp,select "repair this copy"
You'll
loose all updates, but no files or settings...

I try both method and no luck. The problem is steal there.
I noticed that "explorer.exe" do not run in the processes of task manager.
When I started manualy, I just have a flash at bottom of screen and it never
show-up in process list.

Any other idea for me. Thanks

If explorer.exe is not running, there is a good possibility that your
son has done more than move a folder. You also mentioned that he is
downloading music and that means a high probability that he is doing it
by file-swapping (Limewire, Bearshare, Kazaa, etc.). The bottom line is
that your computer is probably infested with viruses and/or malware.

I'll give you general malware removal steps, but since you don't have
explorer.exe to work with it will not be easy. A better solution would
be to back up the data (which can be done without getting into Windows)
and do a clean-install OR take the machine to a professional computer
repair shop and have them do the necessary. This will not be your local
version of BigStoreUSA.

Go through these general malware removal steps systematically -

Include scanning with either Sysclean or Multi_AV, plus Ewido. Do all
prep/finishing work and follow instructions to do all scans in Safe
Mode.

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at the link above (not here, please).
