No modem detected

Anyone familiar with XP suddenly not recognizing your
modem? Tried to dial up one day and it says I need to
install a modem first. Went out and bought new modem and
installed it. When I dial up still no modem detected. I
tried the new fax software that came with the modem and it
faxes just fine so I knw the modem works.

I have received error message 711 that the remote access
Service Mgr could not start. i went to Microsoft website
and tried to fix per the instructions and in the process
got error message 5 and error message 1068.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

Had the same problem with my laptop. Never have gotten
the built-in software modem to work since, even though XP
says it's working fine. Installed a PCMCIA modem and
that's the only way I can communicate!

XP's not an improvement over anything in my opinion. Too
buggy.
