No longer receiving emails from specific account

After many months of trouble free use windows mail is no longer picking up
mails from my primary email account with virgin.net. I have tried removing
and adding the account again through tools, accounts, but it now gives me the
box "Windows Security" and asks me to verify both username and password for
my mail server which I have just resubmitted - it wont take the details I
input and continues to give me that box - if I click the X to close that
window I get the following error message - Account: 'pop.virgin.net',
Server: 'pop.virgin.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid
command', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number:
0x800CCC91

See if this help :
On each and every one of your accounts, do this :
Tools > Accounts > highlight the account > Properties > Advanced. Under
Delivery heading, put a checkmark on " Leave a copy of messages on server "

it's already checked. I tried another person's suggestion to check webmail
and see if there are any messages and there were almost 300. I sent an email
from my yahoo and that didn't go through either. when I click on the receive
from the problem account that it says execute, but not completed. aargh!

Do you get an error message when you try to receive? If so,
right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

One other thing to check: Tools, Accounts, select that account,
Properties, on the General tab make sure "Include this account..."
is checked.

If no joy, that account may be corrupted, so delete it. Restart
Windows Mail, then recreate the account.
Which antivirus are you running? Some of them cause problems with
Windows Mail over time.

now something even stranger. I go to webmail & forward to my working address
and I am getting 2 copies?

oh sorry! I answered on the last post that I did not get an error message
just no downloaded messages. it says executing and not completed.

Norton security products are among the top three troublemakers for
Windows Mail. Symptoms often don't surface until several months have
gone by, or until an update occurs.
First, be sure to disable its email scanning, for the reason explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Several users here have reported that Symantec will give you a free
upgrade to Norton Antivirus 2009, which may cure the problem. If
interested, contact Symantec via online chat.

Disabling the Norton program is often insufficient. Do a trial uninstall,
followed by using their debris removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of overly
intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail
