Possible reasons:
The system's SAM file is corrupted.
MSGINA.DLL or another file associated with WINLOGON.EXE or
LSASS.EXE or the GINA program is damaged.
Have you attempted to install the Novell Networking Client?

Windows is unable to confirm your identity because it
can't load the Security subsystem (LSASS.EXE) or because
the SAM database is corrupted and unusable (SAM is the
system's username and passwords list)
A corrupted SAM could be the cause:
- Start Windows in Safe Mode and use System Restore to
recover the SAM database
If you can't start into Safe Mode (because the LSASS.EXE
subsystem won't start):
Use the Windows XP disc to boot into the Recovery Console.
If you are NOT prompted for an Administrator password,
then your SAM is corrupted.
If this is the case you need to copy it from backup.
SAM is located in C:\WINDOWS\System32\CONFIG
A copy from when Windows was first install is located in
C:\WINDOWS\Repair
MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR CURRENT SAM BEFORE OVERWRITING
IT!
Type EXIT to restart the computer when compelted.

If you Were prompted for an Administrator password and it
was taken then the SAM is OK. Restart the computer and
choose ENTER instead of the Recovery Console then run
Repair on the Windows installation.

NOTE: The Administrator account is not available on
Windows XP Home from Normal Mode.
