No login for Web Folder

S

Shawn Clabough

When I try to open a particular Web Folder, I do not receive the login
prompt that I receive for all of my other webs. Subsequently, the
folder comes up blank - showing no files or folders inside. If I login
via FrontPage, I do get the login prompt and all the files and folders
are in the Folder List, but they do not show in the Insert Hyperlink dialog.

Delete the web folder, then open the site in FP, and the web folder should be re-created.

I've deleted all Web Folders and .web files in my profile with no luck.
This behavior is happening from multiple clients, so does anybody know
of a server side issue that could be causing this?

T

Thomas A. Rowe

I normally never access sites directly via the Web Folders, always via FP File Menu | Open Web.

When you say "Try to open a particular web folder," exactly how are you opening it??
I ask because you go on to state "you get the prompt when you open it in FrontPage."

Also, where "is" this web folder??

If I open in in FrontPage, the Insert Hyperlink dialog box is empty,
just like the Web Folder is. I explained it by using Web Folders so
that it was clear that it is not a FrontPage client setting.

S

Double-clicking from My Network Places. The web is located on a remote
server. I mentioned FrontPage to explain that I get a different login
experience between FrontPage and Web Folder, but each is displaying a
symptom of whatever the problem is.

Have you delete all *.web files?

The reason you don't get a prompt when clicking the link in My network places is "probably"
because at one time or another the "save this password" box was checked.

Go here: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/pspv.html and download and run "Protected Storage PassView."
It will list all of your passwords and the site or program they are associated with, and you can use
it to remove the stored password info for that particular link.

I'm having a similar problem, when trying to publish edits to my website, the
typical login popup is showing up.

I've tried going to my web site and doing the Edit with Frontpage option,
but no login popup appears, any ideas why?

Steve,

Thanks for the fast response.

Perhaps my issue is not like the one before.

For some weird reason, when trying to make edits via the web site (Edit with
FP) FrontPage is appearing with the code from my hard drive not the code
sitting on the server at my hosting company. Basically, I'm not able to
login to the server.

What happens if you open FrontPage, click File > Open Web and then enter http://yourweb.com ??

Hi Steve,

I tried your option and got the following error message:

The Web server at http://mywebsite.com does not appear to have Widows
SharePoint Services installed.

I've uploaded files to this server before. I'll let my hosting company know
of the error message.

Thanks,

Randy

The hosting company says the FrontPage Extenstions are installed.

Normally, when editing and uploading changes to the site, I just click the
File, Publish Site.

I just tried it again and it finally worked. I think the web hosting
company did something to fix the issue.

I appreciate your efforts to help me.

Once this morning, it asked me for credentials and I logged in and the
web folder was still blank. Subsequently, I've logged out and back in,
and rebooted and it will not ask me to login again. The program you
suggested reports that I have no stored passwords.
