I have tried everything to turn on MS Words previous files function. (When
you open Word it shows previous files that were used.) Can someone help? The
problem might lay outside Word. Thank you.

There's really only one thing you need to do: set the 'recently used file list' counter under Tools|Options|General. Note that this
only affects files opened *after* the value is set and the checkbox is checked.

You should see this list at the bottom of the menu opened by the Office
Button. If you do not see it, there is a similar Options setting: Office
Button | Word Options | Advanced | Display: Show this number of recent
documents.

In that case, the setting is under one of the selections availabe from 'Word Options', but you can still get to it via the keyboard
shortcut Alt-t, o, then navigating though the options in the left-hand pane of the window that opens up.
