Hello, just upgraded from 98SE to XP. I'm having
difficulty connecting to my ADSL connection. When trying
to establish a connection, I receive an error message that
the network adapter (Alcatel USB modem) is not bound to
TCP/IP.

To fix this, the ISP instructs going into Control Panel-
Network Connections-LAN Status-Properties. My problem is
that there are no "LAN" connections installed in my
Network Connections folder.

What should I do to get the TCP/IP installed properly?
Thank you, in advance, for your help. Rubinlw

Greetings Rubinlw,

A local area connection is detected when each network adapter is detected.
If you are not seeing local area connection in the Network Connection
folder, then check the Device Manager. Make sure you have the latest
compatible drivers for the network adapter installed and that works for
Windows XP.

1. Right-click My Computer, and then choose Properties.
2. Click the Hardware tab, and click Device Manager.
3. Expand the Network adapters, right-click the adapter, and click
Properties.

Check the Device status for the adapter. Verify that the "This device is
working properly" message appears in the Device status box on the General
tab.

Eric,

perhaps he doesn't have a LAN.
