No internet through router with DSL

I don't understand the difference between DSL broadband
and cable broadband and probably don't need to. When I
hook machine w/Home ed. to DSL modem when I connect using
IE I get a dial-up box and after clicking connect
everything is fine.

When I connect PC to router to DSL modem and set router up
w/PPPoE, when dial up box comes up, it can't connect.
DOes anyone have any ideas?

As a separate question, why would the connection seem to
drop once in a while (as demonstrated by IE wnating to
redial)?
Thanks for your help.

Yes, there is a difference; especially setting it up.
So, who's the provider of your DSL, and are you using
Ethernet or USB to connect?

SBC Yahoo is the provider. Ethernet, not USB. I've set
the router up per it's instructions (it's a D-Link) for
use w/DSL (the PPPoE thing).

Thanks for your quick reply.

the dsl modem/router must be in "bridged" mode to forward generic non
filtered coonection to the router. See that the dsl modem/router is in that
mode. You must enter your dsl main user name and password in your router.
See connection status via your router and see that your connected or do so.
