I have a basic installation of Windows 2000 professional.
I have recently purchased Norton Internet Security 2004
which requires a minimum version of IE to be installed.

If I install IE6 or any W2K service pack (tried all SP1-4,
but only one at a time) then I cannot connect to the
internet with the browser. However, my broadband does
connects via my ISP without a problem.

I keep installing a service pack, restart then find I
cannot connect. I then remove the SP and can connect. I
have tried this with all service packs 1-4.

I also have Netscape installed as the older version of IE
did not support 128 bit encryption which was needed for one
banking site I use. However, following another update this
now works with IE.

Can someone please help me

Are you running a personal firewall? If yes, you might have to update your
firewall in order to use a later service pack.
