no icons after log on screen

After i log on to my user or any user on my computer it
takes a while to load then only backround photo is the
only thing thats on the screen no icons nothing tryed to
right click no luck any ideas using XP have not added any
software in the last week just did it two days ago any
help would be great please e-mail with any ideas thanks

To get your desktop back try hitting the ctrl/alt/delete

keys to bring up the task manager, then on the
applications tab select new task, and type in "
explorer.exe ". Or run the system file checker tool, click
start, run, type in this;
" sfc /scannow " with that space after the sfc, and you
need the XP CD or service pack 1 CD.
