Raymond,
I'm not sure if you already solved this issue. But, it sounds like you
got a rogue process running not letting explorer.exe to run. You
verify this by ending processes on task manager. I tried to end
explorer.exe and went to new tasks and entered explorer.exe and the
icons reappeared. Now I know that something is not letting explorer
run.
This is how I have fixed this.
1. Check for Spyware using spybot and ad-aware
2. check for viruses Norton, Mcafee etc..
3. Run regedit and back up registry
4. Go to Hkey local machine, software, microsoft, windows, current
version
5. Look in "run" and find those processes that you are unfamiliar with
by searching google on it etc.. ex.. winlog, h4fdgt.exe, newussr.exe
and delete them
6. do the same for "run once" and "run services"
Scared to delete then try this
7. You can also disable them by using msconfig by unchecking the
potential process first then delete them from the registry..
Hope this helps... If not you then anyone with this problem.
John.
