No hyperlink balloon

I am running Outlook 2007 on Windows 7 Pro x64. When I open an e-mail in my
inbox and hover over the links, there is no balloon popping up to show where
the link is actually going (e.g.: link says Microsoft, balloon shows
http://www.microsoft.com). I do see a quick flash of something, as if the
balloon was going to appear, but it never does.

I had this feature on Windows XP with Outlook 2003, and consider it a
security risk to click on links now.

Does anyone know how to get this feature working in Outlook 2007?

I have already tried running the Microsoft Office 2007 repair from the disc.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Does it work correctly in Outlook Safe Mode?
Start-> type; outlook.exe /safe
(note the space in the command)

No, unfortunately there was no change.

Well, other than changing Outlook back to the default blue color ;)

Do you have other ideas?

Thanks again for your help.

I meant to type "Do you have any other ideas?"

Tooltips all seem to be working. Balloons show over calendar events. The
only problem is hyperlinks in e-mails.

Let me know if you need any more information to diagnose this problem.

Does the problem occur with every message format? Or does it work for Plain
Text but not HTML?
Does it work when you press Reply and then hover on the link?
Does it work for links in Word, Excel or PowerPoint?

The problem occurs with HTML and plain text messages. There was no balloon
when I hit reply and hovered over the links.

Links in Word 2007 behaved just like Outlook 2007. The balloon starts to
appear and then disappears. Basically, blink and you'll miss it. Most of the
time the ballon does not appear at all. I did not have any PowerPoint or
Excel files with links in them.

It seems possible to me that this may be a registry setting; something that
would determine how long the balloon should appear. In Outlook 2003 the
balloons would show for 5 to 10 seconds before going away.

Thanks again. I really do appreciate your help in this matter.

Roady,

I decided to uninstall and reinstall Office 2007 over the weekend. I hoped
that might fix the problem. After reinstalling Office, I started Outlook and
all of my personalization and preferences were saved from the old install.
The hyperlink balloon was still not showing up.

Do you have any new ideas that I can check for that might fix the problem?

Do you know where the personalization settings are kept so that I can
completely remove all of the Outlook files and settings and start from
scratch?

Thanks again,
