no home directory

I am on a windwos 2000 file server with service pack 3.
All clients are Windows xp. Sometime when the client logs
on the home directory does not show up. If they log off
and log back on it is there. Why is it not there the first
time.
 
Are you using roaming profiles, mandatory profiles, or
local profiles? It sounds like the problem is with the
profile configuration.
