No Hibernation OR standby Option

I HAVE RECENTLY LOST THE OPTION TO PUT THE PC INTO
STANDBY OR HIBERNATION, WHY ! , WELL THAT 'S MY QUESTION.

HOW DO I GET THEM BACK?
somebody had suggested to roll back a recent driver, and
that should fix it, well it didn't, also system restore
is no help, even a repair install of winxp didn't do it.
I even cleared my bios and reset it, all to no avail!

please help.
