Maurice

hello:

I have a Toshiba laptop (P205S-S8802), when I choose start --> turn off
computer, I don't have hibernate button to click on, I have (stand-by,
turn-off, restart). In the same time, in Control Panel --> Power Options,
I've enabled hibernation.
But I've programmed the power on-off button to hibernate, can this the
cause?
just for curiosity!!

thanks

To enable the "Hibernate" button on the "Turn off Computer" window, create
then merge this registry file:

1. Copy below and paste into Notepad.

--------------------------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\Shutdown]
"HibernateAsDefault"=dword:00000001
"ShowHibernateButton"=dword:00000001

--------------------------------------------

3. Save-as HibernateButton.reg (or any name + .reg)

4. Double-click or right-click and merge into the Registry.

5. Restart your computer.

Does the standby button turn to hibernate when you depress the shift key? If
so that's how you get hibernate..

Yes exactly, if we can display just 3 buttons, is there a way to remove the
"stand by" button and have "hibernate" instead??

thanks

This:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\Shutdown]
"HibernateAsDefault"=dword:00000001
"ShowHibernateButton"=dword:00000001

is how to show all four buttons, "Hibernate - Standby - Turn Off - Restart"

Why it's not working for you I don't know. You restarted, right?

Maurice:
You might want to try the following if you're agreeable to just having a
shortcut to Hibernate on your Desktop...

After enabling hibernation in Control Panel > Power Options...
Create hibernate shortcut on Desktop.
Right-click on Desktop > New > Shortcut
Copy & paste the following in the text box...

%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll,SetSuspendState

Click Next.

Type Hibernate as name of shortcut and click Finish.

Move the shortcut icon on your Desktop wherever you like.

As a fallback, put a shortcut on your desktop with this as the target:

%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll SetSuspendState S4

Then click on the shortcut to hibernate.

Yes, this is possible and work, but I was looking if it's possible to have a
"hibernate" button instead of a "stand by"one. Apparently, this is not
possible as the computer is equipped with a possibility of a "stand by"
(from a french newsgroup).

thanks anyway

There is no way to replace the buttons in XP. Are you using Vista, Xp or
what? Also, I don't reccomend trying, if it involves code. But, who am I
kiddingit might be safe.
