At times my computer will loose all fonts once I have
booted up. My computer will even autoboot and keep
cycling without loading windows. An error will sometimes
appear stating that windows has not booted properly and
give a option to boot in safe mode.
System restore will correct this problem but it only
lasts for up to a week max.
In place of fonts there are strange symbols.
When manually restoring fonts there are only 'fixedsys'
and 'system' to choose from.
This only occurs on boot up, but not all the time. I can
go up to a week max without any problems.
I have scanned for viruses and spyware, as well as
uninstalling all software. I am now only running Windows
XP sp1, Mcafee Virus Scan 7.0 Pro, and Ad-Aware. All with
the latest updates.
Once this problem occurs, I have check the font file in
windows and it is empty.
This started early in Jan 2004.

System Restore option in Windows Me/XP
http://www.augustana.ab.ca/other/cns/virus/
http://www.adamtj.org/repository/howto/W32.Blaster.Worm/
Users of Windows Me and Windows XP should temporarily turn off Syste
Restore. Windows Me/XP uses this feature, which is enabled by default
to restore the files on your computer in case they become damaged. If
virus, worm, or Trojan infects a computer, System Restore may back u
the virus, worm, or Trojan on the computer.

Windows prevents outside programs, including antivirus programs, fro
modifying System Restore. Therefore, antivirus programs or tools canno
remove threats in the System Restore folder. As a result, Syste
Restore has the potential of restoring an infected file onto you
computer, even after you have cleaned the infected files from all th
other locations.

Also, a virus scan may detect a threat in the System Restore folde
even though you have removed the threat.

For instructions on how to turn off System Restore, read your Window
documentation, or one of the following articles:
