No Fire in my Wire... Please help!

I just got an Agere (FW323-06 Chip Set)
1394 Host Controller Card and I cant get my new WinXP
(Emachines C2684) to recognize it at all.

After installing it into the PCI slot (I have tried
all 3) WinXP is suppose to recognize the Plug and Play
card but nothing happened... as if no card/s installed.

So...

I tried using the "Add hardware" but it dose not
recognize any new hardware and asks me if I have
already installed it.
- I choose "yes" then select "add new hardware
device".
- Again it finds nothing so...
- I continue and select "IEEE 1394 Bus Host
Controllers" and I get "(unable to find any drivers
for this device)"

Any suggestions??

Thanks in Advance,
- R

.
If you have a retail product you can call Microsoft for
support .If it is an OEM product call the manufacture of
the computer and insist they help you.

Not true, the card will show up if it has power to the PCI
bus and the card is not defective.

There could be a BIOS setting problem, follow the directions
for eMachines to open the BIOS and look at the settings to
be sure nothing related to the PCI slots is disabled. Make
sure plug and play is enabled.

It is very possible that the card has a problem.
You might contact Agere http://www.agere.com/support/

| the card won't show up till you plug the device in to the
card.
|
| have you done that?

Yea... tried that too.. no luck.

I emailed the reseller and got back "motherboard compat issue. send
back"... but i'm not sure thats the case and it would cost me more to
send it back than I paid for it.

So i'm still hoping for a holiday miracle or a B-day surprize (it my
b-day today).

In Device Manager, click on View - Show Hidden Devices. Look for anything
with a X or question mark. Remove them and then scan for hardware changes
and see if that finds any new hardware.
