No Fax/Scan in Vista Premium -- are you kidding me? It's basic!!

I was considering buying a bundled laptop package and just about every combo
has the Home Premium version of Vista loaded. Fax/Scan is so basic it should
be in
the Basic version. To not include it in the Premium version is hard to
believe. To add insult to injury, it appears there is no way to even pay for
it to later include it. The product manager who came up with this concept
better go back to class. You are infuriating people! If you don't think so,
search on what people are doing (wasting time and effort) trying to work
around this nightmare. It's not that they would not have paid for Ultimate
if they knew ahead of time. The problem is it is NOT AVAILABLE in any of the
bundled solutions!!!!!!!! Premium is what you get and what you don't get is
basic fax functionality. Lame!!

You are assuming, incorrectly, that Microsoft cares about its paying
customers. WPA, WGA, DRM and this crap proves they don't.

Thanks for these links - I have not tried them but will do so.
Currently I have installed:
http://www.rkssoftware.com/rksfax/overview.html $19.95
http://www.snappysoftware.com/index.html $29.99
and now use RKS which is user friendly and suits my occasional use a little
better than SnappyFAX, though I like them both.
The removal of FAX for all but the Business and Ultimate versions raised a
howl of fury on this NG about fifteen months ago, and at first SnappyFAX was
the only Vista one I remember being recommended here and then after a few
months RKS Fax (from the MightyFAX stable) was recommended as well. After
that most of us seemed to accept that the disappearance of Vista was clearly
indicated in the Vista specification and that getting a third party
replacement was the way forward. I don't remember the XP fax driver as being
all that easy to set up and live with, though I had got used to it, but I am
happier with what I now have.

It's a lot of lip service. Maybe someone should post a Linux problem in
here by mistake and put you to the test. :)

Answered in another newsgroup. Please do not send the same message
separately to more than one newsgroup (called multiposting). Doing so
just fragments the thread, so someone who answers in one newsgroup
doesn't get to see answers from others in another newsgroup. And for
those who read all the newsgroups the message is multiposted to, they
see the message multiple times instead of once (they would see it only
once if you correctly crossposted instead). This wastes everyone's
time, and gets you poorer help than you should get.

If you must send the same message to more than one newsgroup, please
do so by crossposting (but only to a *few* related newsgroups).

i saw elsewhere that USROBOTICS, has a web page..
http://www.usr.com/bvrp/bvrp.asp?loc=unst
that has english and other languages s/w called

This BVRP PhoneTools update is intended for use with all models listed that
have been updated to V.92, this does not include OEM models:
and says good for: Version 9.03: Windows XP, XP x64 Edition, Vista, Vista
x64 Edition.

so assuming, a usr modem is no differeent than the modem u have,
(I assume they all follow / use the same AT commands, etc ..) maybe this
would/will/might work.. if someone can confirm this, many ,many people would
be a lot happier with this solution, since I don't like wasting fax paper
and enjoy a good preview, also like to use my modem that dell sold me..(I
assumed by error, I could use it for faxing...) my next goal is a cheap
scanner ($10 including good s/w is want i want, to complete my new computer
purchase).

p.s. the item below : he's 100% right !
just because a vendor sees support issues as a cost factor and fax usage is
down and can be circumvented, is not a good-enough reason to not provide
this "service"
to the PREMIUM people. M/S , like other computer giants has a bunch of
idiots working there. so this too is not news, it's just how it is. If u want
to piss people off, and do it enough times... business will suffer. if u
insted put out a KBnnnn update to add new functionality, people will run to
your door like lemmings. and say nice things about you.
so what do u think m/s will do--- stick to their past decisons and give
themselves another raise. customers are a final "load test" after
beta-tetsing. nothing more!
wgatever happened in Bill's garage is long gone dream. it's all lawaers and
accountants now. with managers with no idea of PR of software backgrounds.
The legacy of IT is gone now. us 40+ years of experienced people are a dying
and retiring breed. wizards for everyone! do what we tell u! end of
program! (EXIT STOP RUN ; GOBACK)
