No entries at all in Event Viewer

I'm just having an issue with a Windows 2000 server that does not show anything in any part of event viewer. System and application logs are blank. It certianly used to. A while back I recall saving the logs into a backup folder and clearing them as they were full. I would expect them to continue showing new issues.

We are trying to troubleshoot a shutdown issue which appears only happen in the weekend every few months.

Any idea

The temporary fix;
You might try changing the file properties to "Overwrite as needed"

Then; Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services|Event Log Service|General,
set the "Startup Type:" to "Disabled" restart the pc, then delete (or move)
the corrupt *.evt file(s) from %windir%\system32\config then set the Event
Log Service "Startup Type:" back to "Automatic", restart for effect.

The more permanent fix;
