No drag & drop

I

Iain

I'm using Moviemaker 6, and although I can import audio and video, I
cannot drag and drop them to the storyboard or timeline, nor does the
"add to timeline" feature work. Likewise is true of transitions. I can
drag, but the drop does not add anything to the timeline.

I can drag and drop titles only.

Any thoughts?

Could be an issue with your Video Driver.
Reducing your Graphics Hardware Acceleration
may be worth a try:

"No guarantees and proceed at your own risk."

Windows Vista -
How To Reduce Graphics
Hardware Acceleration

1. Click Start, type personalization
in the Start Search box, and then
click Personalization in the Programs
list.

2. Click Display Settings.

3. Click Advanced Settings.

4. Click the Troubleshooting tab, and
then drag the Hardware Acceleration
slider to the left until it is one notch to
the right of None (the Basic acceleration
setting).

5. Click OK, and then click Close.

6. If you are prompted to restart the
computer, click Yes.

If the problem is improved...reinstall/
update your video driver. If the problem
is not improved...return the acceleration
to Full and seek a different solution.

Good luck.

What file types are they?
Which version of Vista are you using?

WMV files. The MM with Windows 6.0 (2006 - vista).

I don't know what the about box refers to -- it's the Moviemaker that
comes with Vista, but I downloaded other versions of MM also and they
don't work.

The graphics card is an ATI radeon 1200.

It has worked in the past, under Vista and that graphics card. I lent
the PC to a relative and now that one aspect of MM doesn't
work(everything else is fine).

wmv files should work regardless of which version of vista you have, so it
doesn't matter about that question.

This bit worries me,
"It has worked in the past, under Vista and that graphics card. I lent

Which to me says they've done something to your pc which has stopped it from
working.

Try system restore back to before they had it.

Ask them what they have installed or uninstalled whilst they had it and
report back.

The files import successfully, and play successfully in the preview
box. It's just getting them to the timeline that seems impossible.

Audio files also cannot be added to the timeline(or storyboard).

The only thing I can add to the timeline is titles. I can add titles
to both the titles layer of the timeline and the video layer of the
timeline.

Does this affect current installations etc? That was about 6 months
ago.

There is now a thing on the system called Folder Lock, which wasn't on
there before. World of Warcraft, and Limewire also. It's the same
installation as before, and I don't think much else has been done (not
an ambitious or advanced user). I installed Half-Life 2, but I can't
remember if that was before or after I tried Moviemaker.

I tried the other suggestion of tinkering with hardware acceleration,
but the driver software doesn't let me do this.

This can often happen with incompatible files, but yours shouldn't be.

It will affect all programmes updates etc that have been installed but not
files, but see below.

There is now a thing on the system called Folder Lock,

This might be your problem, it has caused many people anguish in the past.
Google it for more help on that score.

which wasn't on
there before. World of Warcraft,
This may have added codecs that you don't want. Check papajohn's website
www.papajohn.org and check out his page on codecs causing crashing and the
renaming of them.

and Limewire also.
One good way to get viruses, have you run full anti virus, adware, payware
programmes? I would.

Hi,

I uninstalled Folder Lock and that mended the problem-- ironically I
needed to go into Safe Mode just to uninstall FL. FL tampered with its
own ability to uninstall itself. ahwell.
