No dial up anymore

Hi,
I just installed and updated version of Windows XP over
the old version and I knocked out my dial-up. When I use
the wizard to try to install it again the dial-up option
is greyed and will not let me install it. Only the broad
band is available. Can anyone help.

Physically remove the modem then remove the modem device in Device
Manager. Download the latest driver for the modem from the manufacturer
and follow the install procedures.

Hi,
Just to let you know before I remove the modem, Device
Manager shows the modem is there and working.

Windows has no clue if the modem is working or not. It often says its
working after a surge also when the modem is totally fried and smells
burnt.

Hi Steve,
I removed the old modem and drivers, then I installed a
new USB modem. It says in Device Manager that it is
working. After all that the problem is there and just
the same.

I think the problem must have something to do with my
wireless G broadband router. The install wizard will
only let me install a broadband modem. If Windows XP did
th
is for me during the install, how do undo this?

Thanks

I'd do the same with the broadband modem and the new modem - remove them
both and their entries in Device Manager. Then try installing the new
dialup modem first, verify that it works, then install the broadband
modem and see what happens. Make sure you follow the instructions for
installing each. USB devices usually require the software to be
installed first, then connect the device.

Hi Steve,
I don't have a broadband modem. I just have never been
able to aford it yet.

Hi Steve,

I just wanted to add that I am 99.9% sure that my problem
is not a modem driver problem. At this point I am
wondering if I should reinstall the router software.

thanks
