No Desktop

Vicki

Recently, one of our office computers came up with an error message; I'm not
sure how, but staff restarted the computer, and now no desktop icons, start
button, or taskbars will appear. We just have a blank desktop (background
pic is there). We can access programs through the Task Manager, but that is
a pain. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

sometimes you can
open up the task manager
and "kill" the process
called explorer.exe

then go the first tab
in the task manager
and launch a new
task called explorer.exe

if the above method displays
the desktop appropriately
then there may be a problem
with the registry hive loading.

Right click on Desktop and select Arrange Icons by, and Show Desktop
icons. If that works we can look at the other missing items.

Hope this helps.
