I need some help. My XP pro computer will look like it is booting up the
proper way, you get signon screen , but you dont get a desktop. The wallpaper
is there, but no icons, start button taskbar, all gone. Any help?

Reboot, log on, press CTRL + ALT + DEL. In the task manager click file > new
task (run) and then...
First try running, simply, "explorer.exe" without the quotes. If it brings
up the desktop simply reboot and scan for malware. If it doesn't then look
for a running process with that name and kill it and then re-run it manually
as above. If that doesn't work you can start the restore process by running
this:

"%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe" (again without the quotes)

Item No. 195 (right column), click on "Restore Desktop Icons and
Taskbar".

Install the registry fix, then reboot your computer.
