No Desktop!?

I was on the internet when all of a sudden it crashed to the background
and thats all that came up. I figured it froze, so I restarted it. Once
I logged in it stayed at the background again. No desktop! What happend?
What do I do?

Press CTRL + ALT + DEL > File > New Task > type "explorer.exe" and hit
enter...
Does that bring up your desktop?
If so then reboot right from there - and that's often the trick. If
