No default mail client?

I recently 'upgraded' office XP to office 2003.
There was a photo managing program on the computer, film factory, that
came with an epson printer that had an option to mail a photo from a
pulldown menu that worked fine under the older version of outlook, but
now when I try it, I get the message that there is no default mail
client, run outlook & set it as the default mail client, which I have
repeatedly done, but still get the message! Epson discontinued the
software a couple of years ago, so I don't expect any help from them.
Any suggestions?

Perhaps since the software was discontinued a couple of years ago, it
doesn't support newer versions of Outlook since it hasn't been updated to
accomodate them.
