no dail tone

when trying to connect to dail up internet.
i can hear the moden engage but, it comes up with an error of no dial tone.
it worked before i re-installed windows xp.
seems i had this problem with the last time i installed windows xp.too.

how do i fix it?

Probably the same way you did last time. Go to the web site for your modem
and download the proper XP driver.

i seem to remember it being a problem with the xp dail up programing
not my modem driver

Is your dial up connection set up? Go to control panel, network connections,
look at your dial up connection and see if everything is set up correctly.
(your user name, password, ISP, POP server, SMTP server, etc.)

Has nothing to do with Windows XP. How long is the phone cord between your pc & the wall? Check the connections, is it in the proper port on the modem? Did you even look to make sure it was still connected? Did you accidently kick the phone cord? Etc Etc, check everything. I say this because 99 out of 100 times "No Dialtone" means exactly that. The modem isn't getting a dialtone

Or the dial tone is a stupid dial tone indicating a message is waiting. You can set XP to not wait for dial tone (type dial tone in help to see how).

.
open your tower and move the modem to another port.
Then unintall your modem and reinstall it; it should work
then.
