No contacts in "All Contact Items" (Outlook 2007b)

Hi,
The contacts available under the 'My Contacts' group work fine, and I
can search them from the toolbar 'Find a Contact' tool. However when I try
to search for that same contact using the 'Search All Contact Items' field no
matches are found.
When I click on the 'All Contact Items' group, the viewing pane says
"There are no items to show in this view". How do I get the items that show
up in the 'My Contacts' group to appear in the 'All Contact Items' group?

State your information store and how you migrated it to your beta
installation.

I didn't do any special migration, the upgrade from 2003 to 2007b
automatically migrated my 2003 data.

This is a beta. There is no supported "upgrade" scenario. I assume you were
willing to sacrifice your data?
Always create a new profile if you attempt an upgrade and migrate your data
correctly to the new profile.

I don't think you understand, all of my data is fine, I understand the
meaning of the designation "beta". I thought that it was my part of the
'beta' deal to inform you when features didn't work so that you could find
bugs.
My data migrated smoothly when I installed Outlook 2007b over top of
Outlook 2003 (of course I backed it up). However there is a navigation pane
group labelled 'All Contact Groups'. When I select it I'm told there are no
items in this view. However, one group below 'All Contact Groups' is 'My
Contacts' which contains exactly that , all of my contacts. I assume that I
am also supposed to see this contact info in the 'All Contact Groups' as
well, but it is not there.
Doesn't matter to me, Outlook is working just fine, I like it so far.
If you don't need to sort this out then I'll stop asking questions.

I'm saying that the first step in troubleshooting a problem after an
attempted in place upgrade is to create a new profile from scratch.

"All Contact Groups"? You should see "All Contact Items" in the navigation pane. That's the search window. You won't see anything there unless you conduct a search using the box in the title bar for that view. In other words, it contains no data. All your contacts will show under My Contacts and Other Contacts, as I think you've already seen.

BTW, the "you" that you're providing feedback to here is your fellow Outlook users. Microsoft does not actively monitor these peer-to-peer forums. So, this is a good place to ask questions aboiut Outlook 2007, but if you want to provide feedback to Microsoft, get the Send a Smile tool from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A2E1F4E2-BC0F-4403-B09F-7A677D55F274. This tool will transmit your comments and a screenshot back to Microsoft. As Jensen Harris explains at http://blogs.msdn.com/jensenh/archive/2006/06/23/644160.aspx, all SaS comments do get read and routed to the right people at Microsoft.

Right, All Contact Items, there is nothing showing there. When I search for
a contact in the 'Search All Contact Items' field nothing is found. However
when I search for that same contact name in the 'Find a Contact' box in the
toolbar, it finds the contact. I assume I'm also supposed to get results
from the 'Search All Contact Items' field, but it must be looking in the
wrong places.

Do you have Windows Desktop Search 3.0 installed? Have you checked in Control Panel | Search Options to see if the index has finished building?

MS was supposed to get feedback on the beta.

It say that indexing is paused. So that is why the search won't work? After
the index finishes then it should work?

Some people have problems getting the search up and running. (Remember, it's a beta on top of a beta.) If you haven't left Outlook running overnight, that's the first thing to try. If that doesn't work, rRemoving WDS 3.0, restarting Windows and reinstalling it might help. You can also check out the other threads in the microsoft.public.outlook.general group on search issues.
