no com ports detected in device manager

Hi,
I have a problem with my windows 2000 not detecting any
com ports in my device manager. The only port that is
revealed when I click ports in the lpt1 port. I am trying
to use a USB cradle and there is no way if there aren't
any com ports available. This has occurred since I had to
put a new hard drive in. I have a compaq 1200 if that
helps. Please help. So frustrating. Thank you.
