No CD-Rom present in 2000

I have this IBM laptop that has been acting up. The CD-
ROM is not detected when windows is booted up normally.
Only when in safe mode, does it detect the CD-ROM.
Actually, I think it's a DVD-ROM. This leads me to
believe that it's a software problem, besides, I tried
the drive in a different system and it worked. If
anybody out there has or had this problem and knows how
to fix it or even get around it, please let me know.

I'm having the same issue and it started on the 15th too.
My Cdrom and DVD-r won't load. They show on bootup, but in
device manager they're showing the yellow exclamation
mark. This is the error message for both drives "This
device is not working properly because Windows cannot load
the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)". I've
never had this problem before. Any help?
