No bootable devices

Would someone please explain why my computer, at odd times, will display the
message "No bootable devices", effectively shutting the computer down. I
find the only way to correct this is to shut the computer off, and restart
after a few minutes. Very frustrating! Thank you

Open the motherboard's BIOS and set your hard drive
as the first bootable device.

If that doesn't prove to be the problem I would be concerned your hard drive
is failing.
