Windows 2000 Pro SP4 - all the latest hotfixes.

Windows Defender Beta 2 -
Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1347.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1508.0
Definition Version: 1.14.1643.13

I noticed this AM it is yellow. It says the last scan was 5 days ago (which
I had also run manually for the same reason) and advises me to use scheduled
scanning. It then informs me that it is currently set to Scan automatically
every day at 2:00 AM. This is my work computer and I never turn it off - and
in fact only logout on Fridays as the last thing I do every other night
before I leave is to launch a lengthy (though it doesn't last until anywhere
near 2:00 AM - it is usually finished by 7:00 PM) database process that
requires my machine to be logged in. So why isn't it scanning? Is there a
log file I can check somewhere?

Is the Windows Scheduler service running? Scans are logged in the System
event log, with source WinDefend, and the scheduler service also has
logging, as I recall

Task Sceduler is running and is set to Automatic. I see nothing in the Event
Viewer from Scheduler, but there are numerous entries for WinDefend - all
having to do with updated signatures, etc. Nothing about being unable to
start. I don't see any entries in Scheduled Tasks for Win Defender - should
there be?

Ron;

In XP under Advanced in the Scheduled Tasks window there is a view hidden
folders option which brings up the MP Scheduled Scan task, The last time I
asked the same question you're asking, I was amazed to get the reply that
the option to view hidden tasks was not available under Win2K. Scheduled
Scan start times and stop times are recorded in event scheduler provided
it's really being run:

I don't understand how this works on Windows 2000. As Dave says, in XP
there's a way to show the hidden tasks. I believe the mechanism is parallel
in Windows 200 (i.e. it is a hidden job)--but I don't know how to show them.
I believe among the menus in the task scheduler in Windows 2000 is a log for
the scheduler--and that should show some information--OK - Advanced, view
log. Anything there? Are you on the lastest Defender code--top version
number in help, about should be 1347? Other things we've investigated about
this in the past have been the credentials involved (hard, when you can't
see the job!) and the parameters on the command line for the job--there is a
way to see this stuff, but I sure can't remember it at the moment--maybe
navigating to the folder that actually has the jobs in it?

Well now that's inconvenient! I'll bet there is somewhere in the registry
that I can find the "hidden" tasks...

BTW my version info is in the original post.

I've verified that the scheduled jobs should show in a Windows 2000
scheduler log--do they, in yours?
(sorry for missing the versioning)
