No Audio when playing back video

I have my video camera connected to my computer via USB. I can record video fine but there is no audio associated with it even in playback. Is there something special that needs to be done to copy the audio along with the video?
 
I think you may find that you need to use firewire connection to get picture
and sound, On my Panasonic DV camera USB is only used for still pictures
